"The Most Trusted Man in America?"

Never being one to buy into that nonsense about "speaking ill of the dead," I want to bring to your attention the following statement that the recently-deceased Walter Cronkite said in accepting the 1999 Norman Cousins Global Governance Award at the ceremony at the United Nations:
QUESTION FOR WALTER CRONKITE: Assuming that you genuinely believed (Yeah, right!) the nonsense I quoted you saying above, did it ever occur to you how you would have felt if George "Dumbya" Busha man you didn't care for who was just President of the United Stateswas President of the entire world? (I guess Cronkitea man who allegedly wanted world peacenever read Hans Hoppe's The Economics and Ethics of Private Property.)

Kennedy assassinations, the entire Viet Nam war, the '68 Democratic convention riots in Chicago, the moon landing, Watergate, and on and on I believed him every time he closed the nightly news with his trademark 'And that's the way it is'.
He was from Houston, first job was for the old Houston Post before he became a war correspondent for Movietone News - he covered the Normandy Invasion. I believe his daughter still lives on Houston, and I suppose his last public speech at some function here was just a couple of years ago. He also spoke often at the University of Texas at Austin.
Only a couple of years ago I learned he'd been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations for many, many years, on a video of his acceptance speech for an award from some One World type NGO, or maybe the CFR, with Hillary Clinton doing the introduction.
Mixed feelings. I had also felt betrayed a few years ago learning that a Cronkite protege, PBS Bill Moyers, is also a member of David Rockefeller's big club. Uncle Bill.
All I can say is, "Et tu, Walter?"

catastrophic world conflict we must strengthen the United Nations as a
first step toward a world government [emphasis mine] patterned
after our own government with a legislature, executive and judiciary, and
police to enforce its international laws and keep the peace. To do that,
of course, we Americans will have to yield up some of our sovereignty.
That would be a bitter pill. It would take a lot of courage, a lot of
faith in the new order. But the American colonies did it once and brought
forth one of the most nearly perfect unions the world has ever
