Go Your Own Way

When I reflect back on my youth, one of my greatest errors was imputing some kind of moral authority to society, and thinking older people were wiser than I.

I regret trying to extract meaning, satisfaction or direction from mass media, movies, music or books. Although there were some important exceptions, generally this outward-looking pursuit was thankless and actually harmful.

Society should not be our reference point. It is stumbling around in the dark, controlled by baneful and sinister forces. Best to limit intake of socially-produced materials and find an inner source of happiness and direction.
