An excellent movie about the Moscow Show Trials is "Burnt by the Sun." (1994) Although there are no real heroes in it (just different grades of villainy and innocent victims) the power of the Soviet state in crushing everything in its path is shown magnificently. All the events in the movie take place in a single day, in which the world is turned upside down for the victims.
